Connection acting up?
Most connection problems on Android come from the OS itself trying to save battery by killing background apps, including VPN apps. This page covers the common cases.
The app says "Connected" but nothing loads
This means the tunnel came up but isn't healthy: the handshake is failing intermittently, or the path to the relay is unstable. Treat it like being disconnected. Try:
- Toggle the connect button off, wait a few seconds, and reconnect.
- Switch networks (Wi-Fi to mobile data, or vice versa) and reconnect.
- If it stays like that for more than a minute or two, see "still stuck" below.
Android keeps disconnecting the app
Most Android phone makers ship an aggressive battery optimiser on top of stock Android that kills background apps, including VPN apps, to save power. Exempting lumina vpn from it usually fixes silent drops.
Samsung
- Settings > Apps > lumina vpn > Battery > set to "Unrestricted".
- Settings > Battery and device care > Background usage limits > make sure lumina vpn isn't in the "Sleeping" or "Deep sleeping" apps list.
Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI or HyperOS)
- Settings > Apps > Manage apps > lumina vpn > Battery saver > set to "No restrictions".
- Settings > Apps > Permissions > Autostart > enable autostart for lumina vpn.
- Recent apps > long-press the lumina vpn card > lock it so the OS doesn't clear it from memory.
Pixel (stock Android)
- Settings > Apps > lumina vpn > Battery > Unrestricted.
- Stock Android is generally the least aggressive here; if you still see drops on a Pixel, it's more likely a network issue than an OS kill.
Other OEMs (OnePlus / Oppo / Vivo / Huawei, etc.)
These generally have the same idea under different menu names: look for "Battery" and "Autostart" settings for the app and set both to unrestricted / allowed.
Reconnect steps, in order
- Disconnect and reconnect from inside the app.
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to reset the radio, then reconnect.
- Force-stop the app from Android's App Info screen and reopen it.
- Restart your phone.
- Check the exit relay isn't the problem: the landing page's network section shows what's live.
